Lately I’ve been feeling a bit run down so I thought I would share with you a few remedies that were given to me by a lovely Indian woman when I was in Goa last autumn. According to Ayurveda (the traditional system of medicine in India), milk has many benefits and is used widely in their diet. Here are a few recipes for you to try.
Boil a cup of organic whole milk. Add half a teaspoon of turmeric and half a teaspoon of unrefined sugar. If you want to spice it up, add a little bit of pepper. Turmeric has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties so this drink is good for colds and coughing. Better to drink at night before going to bed.
Boil a cup of organic whole milk, add 2-3 strands of saffron and enjoy! This delicious drink can also help with insomnia and digestion. Saffron is rich in vitamins A and C, and folic acid.
If you just want to enjoy a cup of warm milk, add a cinnamon stick, a few cardamom pods or a pinch of ginger or nutmeg to add some flavour to it.
* If you’re vegan or lactose intolerant, you can use a plant-based milk of your choice instead. ENJOY!
